This is probably one of the very first adverts for a Datsun. This model built between 1930 and 1931 was the Type 10. It was initially marketed as the Datson but the name was changed by 1931, replacing the ‘o’ of Datson for a ‘u’, because the word ‘son’ in Japanese translates as ‘loss’ (or disadvantage) which wasn’t deemed appropriate. The preceding model had been sold as the ‘Dat’ so logically, this was the Datson or ‘Son of Dat’. The Datsun brand name continued in use for more than 50 years before being relegated to a handful of Nissan pickups. An agreement was made to revive the brand for emerging markets in 2010.
